Alessandro Viola, Le Mie Origini 2020

30 year-old vines planted by his grandfather, Le Mie Origini (my origins) is 100 percent Catarratto, Alessandro’s favorite grape that he used to snack on as a kid during the harvests of his youth.

These vines grow higher on the mountain pass at 500 to 600 meters, their roots plunging deep into limestone soils with plentiful underground water to access. That, combined with northeastern exposure and the cool sea breeze, equals a fantastic single-varietal wine that’s the perfect expression of terroir.

Picked at the end of September, the grapes are directly pressed, with fermentation and aging in 2,500 liter botti with occasional stirring of the lees. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, minimal sulfur (10mg/l). Bursting with complex flavors and boasting a long finish, it’s singular Sicilian elegance.
