An expressive and rich white wine from Veneto, showcasing the depth of Garganega from select crus.
Pico 2019 is crafted from 100% Garganega grapes, sourced from three distinct crus—Monte di Mezzo, Faldeo, and Taibane—situated on the volcanic hills of Gambellara, Veneto. These vineyards, cultivated using biodynamic practices, thrive in mineral-rich basaltic soils, contributing to the wine's distinctive minerality and complexity.
The hand-harvested grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, with 2-4 days of skin contact to extract additional flavor and structure. Fermentation takes place in 30-hectoliter oak barrels, without temperature control, preserving the wine's authentic character.
The wine is then aged for one year in large 1,500-liter wooden barrels, allowing it to develop depth and complexity. Bottling occurs without clarification or filtration, and part of the process is done without adding sulfur dioxide, aligning with Maule's natural winemaking philosophy.
Pico 2019 reveals complex scents of honey, flowers, and yellow fruits. On the palate, it is direct and mineral, with a long finish, reflecting the terroir's richness. This light to medium-bodied wine exhibits great structure and tension, making it an excellent companion to seafood, poultry, and dishes featuring fresh herbs.
