A vibrant, skin-contact blend showcasing Alsace's innovative natural winemaking.
Rougissant 2022 is a distinctive cuvée from Jeux de Vins, a collaborative project led by Julien Albertus of Kumpf et Meyer, aiming to support Alsatian winemakers transitioning to natural practices. This wine is a unique blend of Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, and Sylvaner, sourced from vineyards practicing biodynamic farming.
The vineyards are situated on clay-limestone soils, which contribute to the wine's mineral backbone and complexity. The grapes are hand-harvested to ensure optimal ripeness and quality.
In the cellar, the grapes undergo a 10-day skin maceration, extracting color, flavor, and fine tannins, resulting in a light red hue. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts, reflecting the commitment to low-intervention winemaking. The wine is then aged in stainless steel tanks for one year, preserving its freshness and purity. Bottling is done unfined and unfiltered, with minimal to no added sulfur, maintaining the wine's authentic character.
On the palate, Rougissant 2022 offers juicy notes of blood orange, rose petals, and a subtle spiciness, likely imparted by the Gewurztraminer component. The wine is refreshing and salivating, with a lively acidity and a slight tannic grip from the skin contact. Its light-bodied nature and moderate alcohol content (13.5%) make it an extremely drinkable option.
This wine is perfect for apéritifs, pairing well with tapas, summer vegetable tarts, or enjoyed simply with friends. Serve slightly chilled to enhance its vibrant flavors and aromatic complexity.
